LOCAL HOTEL WORKS TO TACKLE YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT
An iconic Welsh hotel has launched its own employment scheme in an effort to tackle youth unemployment. Miskin Manor, based on the cusp of Rhondda Cynon Taf near Miskin village, has begun work to set up Miskin Manor Academy. The scheme will create new jobs for young people in the form of apprenticeships in the hotel throughout various departments. The family-run four star hotel hopes that this will aid the unemployment problems that are facing young people in South Wales.
The hotel will offer up numerous positions for the apprenticeship roles that will include hospitality staff, front of house, food & beverage, housekeeping, gardening, marketing, conferences and events. Getting work experience is one of the best ways to enhance future career prospects and this opportunity brings that idea to the forefront.
Ben Rosenberg Managing Partner of Miskin Manor Hotel said: “Young people will be exposed to all manner of work throughout all departments across the hotel and health club. We currently have ten in the academy, with the view to take in an additional fifty local young people across the next twelve months.”
“Young people are given little chance to prove their worth in today’s workplace.” Continues Rosenberg“We are offering those with limited qualifications the chance to demonstrate their skills and develop their CV whilst earning a living.’’
The scheme allows young apprentices to graduate from Miskin Manor Academy with the option to migrate to Miskin Manor Agency; an outsourced staffing solution for hospitality. This will further develop experience whilst the former apprentices continue to be paid for their work whilst they pursue their chosen career paths.
The current staff at Miskin Manor will continue in their roles with some remits altered to include the mentoring of all those in Miskin Manor Academy. This gives the existing staff an opportunity to partner up with a young worker and aid their progression through the academy.
Miskin Manor is a family run establishment that has a rich history and glowing reputation. The numerous functions, in addition to the large number of wedding clientele means that there is a huge host of oppertunities availible for the apprentices to try their hand at different skills.
