Welcome to our award winning Miskin Manor gardens, located on the grounds of our Hotel, Restaurant and Health club.

We have 22 acres of Beautiful Gardens and Grounds which is set in the glorious welsh countryside right here in Pontyclun, Cardiff. We have won many competitions including the Wales in Bloom competition, Category Hotels, Guest Houses, Public Houses & Restaurants, for three years running 2011, 2012 and 2013 and we are hoping to win again this year.

We are a landscape park, a Victorian pleasure ground and we also have a well-preserved Edwardian terraced garden along with a long drive way to the west of the building.

Features include a yew topiary and 'king's beasts', in Tudor style to complement the house, and some fine specimen trees. We also have an unusually ornamental walled kitchen garden with the remains of a canal, a pool and flanking yew hedges.

Our gardens are a particular outstanding feature and much though and care has gone into their planning – there is am abundance of colour all year round, planed with traditional ‘old varieties’ of plans.

Gardner's Tip of the month

Leaf eating insects can be very problematic during the summer months. Rhubarb leaves can be used to make very effective organic insecticide to prevent insects such as cabbage caterpillars, aphids, peach and cherry slugs.

Recipe

- Collect a few pounds of rhubarb leaves

- Place to boil in a few pints of water for about 15 or 20 minutes

- Allow to cool

- Strain the liquid carefully into a suitable container

- Dissolve some soap flakes in this liquid

- Place into a spray bottle and use to protect your plants
